Brad Loyet Tops The Hockett/McMillin Memorial For The First Time

WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 26, 2015) In an absolute display of dominance, Brad Loyet parked his Vacuworx No. 05 in Victory Lane for his first triumph at the Lucas Oil Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network to become the 18th different winner on the season.

The seventh time Brad Loyet has found Victory Lane since 2012 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, the win in the fifth annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial was a special one for the Loyet family.

“Anytime you come to a race like this, it’s a huge deal. Jesse was a friend of mine. He drove one of my cars before, and actually the first winged car I ever raced was Jesse’s car at Lake of the Ozarks Speedway so it’s pretty cool to be here in Victory Lane,” said Loyet of the win. “I’ve tried really hard to get a win in a Sprint Car here. I’ve won in a Midget, but this feel great.”

Finally rolling after two failed starts that saw Scottie McDonald and Brian Brown walk away uninjured after taking hard flips, the No. 95 of Matt Covington got the jump to the lead from the pole position. Taking the runner-up spot on Lap 3 from Tony Bruce, Jr., the Loyet Landscaping No. 05 worked the cushion of the Lucas Oil Speedway to run down the A-Rock Material No. 95 of Matt Covington.

Finding traffic by Lap 8, Loyet jumped on the advantage. Closing fast, Loyet raced to the lead on Lap 10.

Caution working Lap 11, the restart saw Derek Hagar go to work on Matt Covington for second. Coming from eighth, the R.E. Enterprises No. 9jr took the spot on Lap 14.

Giving chase into traffic, all doors were slammed shut as Brad Loyet raced to victory by 6.803 seconds over Derek Hagar.

“We were way too good early on. We had the car at the beginning that we had at the end last night but hats off to my crew for giving me a good racecar to be able to come from basically mid-pack both nights, and be able to contend for the win,” commented Derek when asked about the runner-up finish. “I know how special it is to win this event. I won it last year and Jesse has a special place in all our hearts.”

Runner up both nights with the Lucas Oil ASCS, Derek completed a weekend sweep with the Impact Signs W.A.R. Non-Wing Sprints for Hockett Motorsports

Holding off the charge of Tony Bruce, Jr. the third spot went to Matt Covington, who ended a 22 race drought between podium finishes.

“We’ve had good speed in the car lately, the driver’s just been making a few mistakes. I did it out there too. I just stayed bottom to middle too long and Loyet showed me the way on the top, but the car felt great. It was the same car we had last night and you know, I’ve been on the pole here before, and thought I was going to win and we fell back to fourth on that one, got third on this one, so we’re getting better and that’s all we can ask for.”

Tim Crawley worked middle to top in the closing laps to get to fourth in the Mike Ward Motorsports No. 88x with Danny Lasoski tearing his way through the field from 21st to complete the top five in the Creason Pipeline No. 33L.

Dicing it up with Johnny Herrera and Tony Bruce, Jr. in the closing laps, Ian Madsen was able to grab sixth with Herrera seventh followed by Bruce. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. from 18th was ninth with Wayne Johnson making the most of a 23rd place provisional start to round out the top-ten.

Losing Danny Wood and Ricky Lee Stangl to crashes on Friday night, Matt Close and Danny Lasoski filled in those spots to bring the event count to 53 drivers. Six Heat Races went to Morgan Turpen, Tim Crawley, Johnny Herrera, Brandon Hanks, Jonathan Cornell, and Chance Morton. B-Feature wins went to Seth Bergman, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Randy Martin. Provisional starts were used by Wayne Johnson and Jordan Weaver. It was the first time this season either driver has had to use a provisional.

The final outing of the season for the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region, Jonathan Cornell picked up his fourth series championship.

The Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network competes next at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17. More information on the Winter Nationals can be found at http://www.devilsbowl.com.

Brian Brown Wins Friday Night at the Hockett/McMillin Memorial

WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 25, 2015) For the second time since 2006, Missouri’s Brian Brown parked the Casey’s General Store / FVP No. 21 in Victory Lane at the Lucas Oil Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.

Brown’s 15th Lucas Oil ASCS triumph, the No. 21 led non-stop in Friday’s 25 lap preliminary A-Feature event after adjusting his line on the opening lap to keep Josh Baughman at bay.

“Anytime you start near the front, you always have to be aware of what’s going on. We don’t get to race near home very often and I can hear a few of you guys booing, but it feels good to win in Missouri, especially at a race of this magnitude,” said Brown when asked about his run. “It’s not just a race, it’s an event, and anytime I can win a race with the name Jesse Hockett and Daniel McMillin in it means a lot. We weren’t always the best of friends, and we race each other hard, but one thing we always had was respect.”

Finding slower traffic on Lap 9, Brown was stalked around the back markers by the EE Systems No. 17 of Josh Baughman. Seeing a few small windows of opportunity, none opened wide enough for the Odessa, Texas shoe as the pair ran away from the field. Chasing in third, Evan Martin held the position until Lap 16, losing the spot to ninth starting Derek Hagar with Kyle Bellm in tow.

Green until Lap 20 for a caution for Wayne Johnson, who saw his night end, the restart saw a shake up in the top four transfer drivers as 11th starting Ian Madsen worked to fourth with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. cracking the top five.

Caution again on Lap 23 for an incident involving Aaron Reutzel and Matt Covington, with the No. 95 not be able to continue, the final two laps saw Brown unchallenged; however, the race for the final three lock-in spots for Saturday were anyone’s guess as Derek Hagar put Baughman to third with a slide job.

Commenting on his night, Hagar said, “We were in late Heat Race, and had good passing points, just those earlier Heats put us out of the redraw by one spot, but the guys at Lucas Oil Speedway do a heck of a job working this race track, and I enjoy racing here,” said Derek Hagar. “We were able to race our way up through there, and that last restart really helped us where I could just stay on Baughman’s rear bumper, and he kind of spun his tires and I was able to get the slide job.”

Hagar went on to win the night’s A-Feature with the Impact Signs W.A.R. Non-Wing Sprint Cars.

Baughman’s third podium in four outings with the Lucas Oil ASCS, Josh was ultimately not happy with a third place finish after chasing Brown for the lead most of the race, but was still pleased to be locked into Saturday’s A-Feature.

“We’re locked in, just not where we wanted to finish. Hats off to Brian, he did a great job. On that start, he got us going into on there and it was on the top and kind of follow the leader and I thought I was going to get him in lapped traffic, but we didn’t get in much for very long and the last two cautions got us.”

While the podium was set Brad Loyet, Ian Madsen, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. fought tooth and nail for fourth with Hafertepe going for the Hail Mary slide, sending both he and Madsen all over the cushion, leaving the low line open for Brad Loyet to go from sixth to fourth in the final turns with Ian Madsen coming back to complete the top-five.

Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was sixth with Kyle Bellm ending up seventh. Evan Martin crossed eighth with Jonathan Cornell and Johnny Herrera completing the top-ten.

A stout 51 drivers made the call with six Heat Races going to Kyle Bellm, Brad Loyet, Brian Brown, Derek Hagar, Johnny Herrera, and Ian Madsen winning. B-Features numbered three with Wayne Johnson, Seth Bergman, and Tim Crawley grabbing wins. Provisionals were used by Aaron Reutzel and Matt Covington.

The fifth annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial continues Saturday, September 26, 2015 with races getting underway at 6:30 P.M. (CT).

Aaron Reutzel is the High Roller at Missouri State Fair Speedway!

SEDALIA, Mo. (August 23, 2015) Lapped traffic was the deciding factor on Sunday night as Aaron Reutzel worked top shelf around Brian Brown it the closing laps of the $13,000 to win Casey’s General Store High Roller Classic for his sixth victory of 2015 with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsport in the series return to the Missouri State Fair Speedway.

“I knew we had a good racecar. I was saving my tires the first part of the race and when that caution came out, I realized that he [Brian Brown] was getting away from me pretty good. I just told myself I need to step it up and do what I got to do, and it all just played out,” said a nearly breathless Aaron Reutzel in Victory Lane. "Saving my tires almost got me in trouble because I got passed at one point, but I was able to get back to second."

Gridding the B.C. Fundz No. 87 outside the front row, Reutzel gave chase as the Casey’s General Store No. 21 of Brian Brown jumped to the early advantage. Losing ground to Brown in the opening laps, Reutzel got another shot as the caution flew on Lap 6 for Austin Alumbaugh.

Keeping pace with Brown on the restart, Reutzel worked the surface looking for room to run, while Brian committed to the low groove. Working to, and falling back several times, the pair hit traffic just past the race’s midpoint point.

Continuing to pound the cushion, Aaron pulled nearly even on several occasions. A full head of steam from entry to the center of the turn, the advantage was Brown’s off the exit; especially turn four that saw the No. 21 launch down the straightaway.

Clearing groups of slower cars, Brown found the inside line blocked on the 18th rotation, giving Aaron the chance he’d been looking for. Working Lap 19, the race went game on down the back stretch. Trying to hold the No. 21 to the bottom line, Reutzel pushed the gap off the exit of four. Using a slower car as a pick, Brian was forced to the center to maneuver, putting the race three wide as Aaron narrowly clear Brown and the wall for the lead.

In control, Reutzel would not be challenged again as Brown had to contend with Brad Loyet in the closing laps. Challenged briefly, Brian was able to fend off the No. 05.

“Sometimes it’s better to be running second than leading. Congrats to Aaron. He did a good job and was able to move around. We just got beat. Really no excuses. I’m proud of this team to come here and run second in front of this basically hometown crowd. I could think of worse things we could be doing tonight,” commented Brown. “My car was just so good around the bottom, and those guys would miss it just enough to where I could get my nose in there, and they’d kind of catch it there but it got pretty hairy when Aaron got by.”

Brad Loyet settled for the show position in the Vacuworx Global No. 05.

“We had a good car. Those guys starting up front there kind of got the jump on us,” said Loyet.

“It seemed like it took my car a little bit to come in but we just caught lapped traffic at the wrong time it seemed like. Rolling the bottom of three and four was going to make the race for us. It just seemed like we were better than they were down there, but we just kept catching them at the wrong end of the race track, but that’s racing. Aaron’s been fast all year long, and Brown’s always good on the half-miles. We’ve had a really tough go lately. We haven’t had a whole lot of confidence so to come out and run as good as we did it feel really well.”

Johnny Herrera worked from 10th to fourth with Seth Bergman completing the top five.

Wayne Johnson was sixth after running in the top-five from most of the race. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. from 11th crossed seventh with Danny Wood marching forward 10 spots to grab eighth. After losing a tire while leading his Heat Race, Jonathan Cornell grabbed the final transfer through the B-Feature to advance 13 positions to ninth. Evan Martin completed the top ten.

With 35 drivers in attendance, four Heat Races went to Aaron Reutzel, Evan Martin, Brad Loyet, and Wayne Johnson. The top-eight in passing points took part in a $1,000 to win Dash in place of the night’s redraw for their starting position, which was topped by Brian Brown. Tiger Towing and Impact4800.com put up the extra cash.

The B-Feature was topped by Justin Henderson. A provisional start was used by Blake Hahn.
During intermission, drivers went through the stands collecting money for Kevin Swindell and Patrick Stasa with fans donating $6,331.32. The total will be split with half going to each driver. We continue to pray for their recovery.

Co-Sanctioned with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region, Jonathan Cornell netted high points with his eighth place performance. Evan Martin, Randy Martin, Josh Fisher, and Tyler Thomas made up the top-five point earns for the region. The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region competes next with a three day swing on Labor Day Weekend, starting with the return to Scotland County Raceway in Memphis, Mo. on Friday, September 4, followed by two nights at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.

Tony Bruce, Jr. Leads Flag-to-Flag at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, Mo. (June 20, 2015) What a way to cap off the 23rd ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek and Bob Westphal Memorial as Liberal, Kan. shoe Tony Bruce, Jr. picked up his first Protect the Harvest A-Feature victory in 2015 with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.

“It means a lot to me to be standing here. We’ve won a race here before, but this one is pretty special. There’s a lot happening with me personally, so this is a big win for us and everyone who’s involved with this team,” said Bruce in Victory Lane. “Hats off the track crew, Dan, and everybody here at the Lucas Oil Speedway. We’re all standing up there having our doubts that the track prep was going to be good or bad, but man, it turned out excellent and that’s the best thing about coming to this race track is they strive for greatness.”

Executing the bottom groove perfectly, Bruce built his advantage quickly before the caution displayed on Lap 7. Returning to speed, the caution flew again the following lap. Picking things up, the Oil Medics No. 18 began to pace away from the field.

Finding slower traffic at the race’s half-way point, the race for the lead began to tighten up as Bruce navigated the back of the field. Searching lines, Bruce became pined behind a pair of slower cars, allowing Kyle Bellm to take a shot at the race lead.

“I thought we had a chance at Tony there, but I got hung up behind the No. 33 car. You know, we had one shot at it there, and just didn’t get it done, but it got to be a handful. I think a bleeder quit, or we sealed a tire after that last caution but the way we’ve been running, a second here is a hell of a feat.”

Settling for the final podium step after battling most of the race with Jeff Swindell, Oklahoma’s Wayne Johnson described the hard fought finish, “Me and Jeff, neither one of us wanted to give up that spot, and unfortunately it got a little ugly there. I hate to do that, but we’re looking at the big picture here and we need every point we can get so sometimes you can’t be ‘Mr. Nice Guy’.”

Wayne’s third place finish was enough to secure the 2015 ASCS Sizzlin’s Summer Speedweek Title, fending off Tony Bruce, Jr. by seven points. Jeff Swindell, Seth Bergman, and Matt Covington completed the top-five in Speedweek points.

Having to work out of a B-Feature, the night’s KSE Hard Charger was Seth Bergman, coming from 20th to fourth after several hard fought battles through the top-ten. After running third for much of the second half of the race, Jeff Swindell would end up crossing fifth.

Derek Hagar came from 12th to grab sixth with Aaron Reutzel fading to seventh after challenging several times for a podium finish. Matt Covington eighth, Blake Hahn ninth, with Jonathan Cornell coming 18th rounded out the top-ten.

With 35 drivers making the call at the Lucas Oil Speedway, five Heat Races went to Kyle Bellm, Chance Morton, Matt Covington, Jordan Weaver, and Evan Martin. A pair of B-Features went to Logan Forler and Jonathan Cornell.

Paired with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region, Jonathan Cornell earned high points for the region. Tyler Thomas, Jay Russell, Austin Alumbaugh, and Tyler Blank completed the top-five point’s earners.

The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real heads for the Skagit Speedway for the 44th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup presented by Jack in the Box on June 25-27. Live online PPV is available at http://www.racinboys.com.
