Tim Crawley Wins Opening Night of LOS 360 Nationals

Tim Crawley, of Benton AR, made his mark to be a top contender in the 7th Annual Lake Ozark Speedway 360 Nationals by leading all 25 laps around Kevin and Tammy Gundaker's 3/8 oval.  Crawley was on cruise throughout most of the race with no serious threats.  A battle was being waged right behind the Mike Ward owned sprinter between Jerrod Hull and Austin Alumbaugh.  The Hull held down the second spot for the firsseventeen laps before Alumbaugh made the pass as the pair entered lapped traffic.  Hull held on for third followed across the finish line by Cody Baker and Mike Trent to round out the top 5.

Jerrod Hull Wins Tri-City

Lonnie Wheatley, PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (August 27, 2010) – Jerrod Hull took full advantage of every little opportunity that presented itself in Friday night’s Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National debut at Tri-City Speedway to pull off a stunning upset victory from the 19th starting position.
The Sikeston, MO, shoe steered clear of some opening lap carnage, snuck by some battling contenders on the low side in the middle portion of the race and then took the lead away from Brian Brown on the 21st circuit before checking out in the final rounds of the 30-lapper for the $6,000 victory, his second career ASCS National triumph and first since a Benton, MO, win on July 4, 1996.

“I’m not believing this at all, I won one of these races back in ’95 or something, a long time ago,” Hull explained in victory lane. “We’ve tried a lot of times, this is by far my biggest win.  While Hull gridded the feature field inside the tenth row after advancing from “B” Main action, he picked up ten spots before a lap was completed when front row starters Danny Wood and Matt Covington tangled and flipped entering turn one, collecting the likes of leading title contenders Jason Johnson and Shane Stewart along with Gary Wright, Justyn Cox, Dustin Barks, Tim Crawley, Ricky Logan and more.
When the mess was cleared and the field reset, Hull restarted in ninth as only Wood, Covington and Barks were unable to make the call for the restart.

“It was close, I drove it in there and seen ‘em piling up and we were able to get it slowed down,” Hull explained of the crash. “I was amazed we restarted ninth. That’s pretty cool we won it from ninth though, they didn’t just give it to us.”  With Hull working forward from the fifth row aboard the Heartland Trailer Manufacturing No. 12 Maxim instead of the tenth row on the second start, Brian Brown led the way to the green flag after originally starting in sixth and gunned into the early lead ahead of Darren Long.

While Brown apparently cruised out front over the first half of the race, the action in his wake was intense with wild sliders for position in virtually every corner amongst Long, Dustin Morgan, Kyle Hirst and Brady Bacon among others.  While all that was going on, Hull found some rubber on the low side of the track and began working forward, getting between the battling duo of Hirst and Bacon for fourth by the midway point. Hirst and Hull slid past Long for second and third by the 19th lap and then quickly closed the gap on Brown, who had been struggling with a sticking throttle throughout while out front.  Hull raced past both Hirst and then Brown for the lead on the 21st lap, one round before the yellow flag flew for Long, who spun to a stop in turn one with a cut tire after battling among the top positions throughout.  After Brown stopped with race-ending woes three rounds later, Hull checked out over the final six circuits to snare the victory with a full straightaway advantage over 13th-starter Hirst, who posted a Lucas Oil ASCS National career-best finish of second aboard Gary Perkins’ Shark-powered GP Development No. 6 A.R.T.

“We’ll take it,” the Loomis, CA, shoe that ranks as the leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender commented afterward. “That start got us a lot of spots and then I found the rubber before the guys up front did, but ol’ Jerrod Hull found it way lower than I did and got by us all.”Fifteenth-starter Zach Chappell worked forward over the final circuits to claim the show position aboard David Chappell’s Wesmar-powered Legend’s Bar-B-Que No. 50z Maxim, while three-time series champion Tim Crawley rebounded from the opening lap melee to claim fourth in Mike Ward’s McCarver-powered Boater Sports No. 88 Maxim.  Brady Bacon rounded out the top five in Mike and Megan Eubank’s Wesmar-powered Tel-Star Communications No. 99 Triple-X, with Jonathan Cornell crossing the stripe in seventh. Reigning series champion Shane Stewart recovered from the opening lap incident and then a lap eight spin in turn four to finish seventh, with Dustin Morgan, current Lucas Oil ASCS National points leader Jason Johnson and Gary Wright completing the top ten.

Brown, Long, Wood and Crawley topped heat race action for the 38-car field, with Adam Jones and Mark Shirshekan winning the twin “B” Mains.

California, MO(August 1st)-Becoming the seventh different driver this year to win his first career Winged Outlaw Warrior A Main, Sean McClelland won the Clyde Wood Memorial at Double X Speedway Sunday night.

Dustin Barks, a first-time winner the night before at Springfield, looked poised to make it two in a row as he outran polesitter Randy Martin into turn one and led the first two laps.  McClelland was on the move early as he shot around the high side to move into third and nearly got by Martin on the opening lap from his sixth starting position.  A lap later, McClelland would get by Martin for second.
On lap three, Barks got too high in between turns three and four and slid off the track bringing out a yellow flag.   On the restart, McClelland took control as Tim Crawley made his way past Martin for second.  A lap later, Tyler Blank worked his way past Martin for third and set his sights on McClelland and Crawley.

On lap eleven, things would get very interesting as Jon Corbin and Lanny Carpenter made contact in turn one causing Corbin to spin in front of the leaders.  McClelland and Crawley were able to go over the bank in turn one and continue on with no problem.  Carpenter and Corbin both were done for the night.

On the restart, McClelland again took off with Crawley giving chase.  As the laps wore on and the leaders encountered heavy traffic, Crawley and Blank were able to get up to and pressure McClelland, but neither was able to get by the current ASCS Sooner Region point leader.
There would be one more stop on lap twenty seven as Jason Schroeder spun in between turns three and four to bring out a caution.

On the final restart, McClelland again proved to be too strong as he went on to to the win in his Maxwell Oil Triple X with Myers power.  Crawley was second in Mike Ward’s Boater Sports Maxim with McCarver power.  Blank was a strong third in his Blank’s Backhoe/Schlotz Landscaping JEI with Patriot power.  Randy Martin would run fourth in his Diamond Pet Foods J&J with Roush-Yates power.  Mark Shirshekan rounded out the top five after an intense battle with Martin for the fourth spot, in his Cooper Enterprises Wesmar-powered J&J.  Curtis Evans ran a solid race to finish sixth in his Arctic Cat Maxim and Jonathan Cornell was seventh in the Kiowa Line Builders Maxim.  Rounding out the top ten were Adam Jones, Miranda Arnold, and current WOW point leader Eric Todd, who started twenty-second.

Heat race winners were McClelland, Blank, and Crawley.

A handful of WOW members will run the Knoxville 360 Nationals from August 5th-7th at the historic Knoxville Raceway, but the next point show will be the annual  Missouri State Fair race on Sunday August 22nd at the State Fair Speedway in Sedalia.

Barks - Top Dog at the Ozark Empire Nationals

Dustin Barks chased down Sean McClelland to collect his first career Winged Outlaw Warriors sprint car victory at Springfield Raceway.  Barks began the race in fifth spot on the quick quarter mile.  Barks stuck his nose to the low grove passing Joe Wood, Jr. and Andy Shouse on lap 15 to claim second in the 25 lap feature event.  Dustin stayed on the trail of Sean McClelland until taking the lead with a low-line pass on the 20th circuit.  At the checkered it was Shouse, McClelland, Wood, and Nick Smith rounding out the top five.

Toby Brown dedicated his sixth place finish to Travis Rilat by running the #29 on his sprinter.  Drivers completing the top ten were Brian McClelland, J Kinder, Tyler Blank, and Kenneth Walker.

Shane Stewart a Lucas Oil ASCS Star at LA!

Lonnie Wheatley, LA MONTE, Mo. (July 30, 2010) – It was all too fitting that a Rock Star reach victory lane in the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National debut at LA Raceway, as reigning series champion Shane Stewart snared his second win of the season by topping Friday night’s 30-lap main event.

The Bixby, OK, native took the lead away from fellow Sooner State shoe Zach Chappell on the 24th circuit and paced the final rounds aboard Paul Silva’s Wesmar-powered Rock Star Energy Drink No. 57 A.R.T. for the $6,000 victory.

It proved to be a case of being in the right place at the right time for Stewart, as Chappell suffered wing damage after a tangle in traffic on the 23rd lap.

“I feel sorry for Zach Chappell, I’m not sure what that lapped car was thinking,” Stewart commented in victory lane.

While Stewart originally started the feature event inside the third row, he slid forward one row when pole starter Josh Fisher looped it in the opening pair of corners, somehow escaping further mayhem as the balance of the 25-car feature starting field dodged him without incident.

Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders Matt Covington and Dustin Morgan led the way to the green flag on the second start and battled in wheel-to-wheel fashion for the opening two rounds before Morgan finally edged into the lead.

Stewart moved in to challenge Covington for second and nearly slipped off the top of turn four on the seventh round, allowing seventh-starter Chappell to race by into third. Chappell charged past Covington for second one lap later, with Stewart battling past Covington as well the next time around.

Just as Chappell was moving in on Morgan to challenge for the point, sixth-runner Brian Brown flipped in turn four when a left front torsion stop came off. As Brown climbed from the wreckage uninjured, fifth-running Gary Wright retired pitside with a cut tire.

As action resumed, Chappell slid past Morgan for the lead and paced the field over the ensuing rounds aboard David Chappell’s Wesmar-powered Legend’s Bar-B-Que No. 50z Maxim with Stewart moving past Morgan for second on the 14th lap.

Holding a five car-length advantage over Stewart in his bid for a second series win in as many Missouri appearances thus far in 2010, Chappell’s luck soured on the 23rd lap when Danny Wood slipped off turn two and came back onto the track and into Chappell’s car. Wood spun to a stop to bring out the caution, while Chappell limped away with enough damage to slow him over the final rounds.

“It was a bad deal,” Chappell commented afterward. “We got together with Danny Wood over there and it bent the sideboard in on the wing. It killed all our side bite.”

With eight rounds remaining, the wing-crippled Chappell was no match for Stewart, who motored by on the 24th circuit en route to his 20th career ASCS National triumph.

“It just worked out for us,” Stewart explained. “Zach missed the bottom a little bit in three and four, I’m sure his top wing wasn’t helping that situation.”

After starting 15th, current series points leader Jason Johnson was up to seventh after Brown’s lap ten flip and then third by the time of the Chappell-Wood encounter.

Johnson blasted around Chappell in the final circuits and chased Stewart to the line. “We had a great car, just started too far back,” Johnson commented of a runner-up finish aboard the JJR Don Ott-powered Haynes No. 41 Maxim. ”I wouldn’t have minded one last restart to make a run at it.”
Chappell limped home third, commenting that, “We salvaged a third, we can’t complain.”

After pacing the initial nine circuits, Morgan drove the Wesmar-powered Ark Wrecking Co. of Oklahoma No. 93 entry to an ASCS National career-best finish of fourth.

Transferring from “B” Main action, 20-year-old Nebraska shoe Jack Dover charged through the field from 17th to round out the top five, with Tony Bruce, Jr., hot on his heels with a run from 19th to sixth.

Darren Long posted his best career series finish by rallying from 18th to seventh, with Covington crossing the stripe in eighth. Mark Shirshekan recorded his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National top-ten run by taking the checkered flag in ninth, with leading Rookie contender Kyle Hirst completing the top ten.

Wright, Fisher, Jonathan Cornell, Stewart and Wood topped heat race action for the 44-car field, with Dover and Long winning the “B” Mains.

Maeschen Master US 36 Raceway

Bronson Maeschen snared his second career American Sprint Car Series Midwest feature win and his first Winged Outlaw Warriors win by topping Friday night’s 25-lap main event at U.S. 36 Raceway.  Maeschen assumed the lead when Jonathan Cornell suffered a broken shifter on a lap 22 restart and paced the final rounds to secure his first series win of the year. Maeschen took the checkered flag in front of Eric Lutz.

Jon Corbin crossed the stripe for third, after leading the initial 19 rounds before Cornell squeezed by for the lead. Aussie Jamie Veal took fourth by Chris Morgan, who rounded out the top five.

The evening's events began with a scary crash involving Dakota Carroll and Ryan Kitchen on the start of the first heat.  Carroll did several barrel rolls and was taken to a local hospital for examination.  She later returned to watch the closing laps of the feature event.

Cornell, Corbin and Lutz topped Friday night’s heat races.

Dover Wins at US 36

Osborn, MO(June 18th)-After a great  battle with Bronson Maeschen over the first ten laps, Jack Dover went on to his second career Winged Outlaw Warrior win at US 36 Raceway on Friday night. Maeschen jumped into the lead from the pole as Zach Davis, Jonathan Cornell, and Dover made up the top four after one lap was complete.  With Dover making his move into second on lap two, the red would come out for Kim Kennedy, who got upside down in between turns one and two.  Kennedy was uninjured.

On the restart, Dover again showed his speed moving into second by Davis and Cornell and began his pursuit of Maeschen.  With Maeschen setting a blistering pace, Dover kept the pressure on as the pair encountered lapped traffic.   The battle would be put to a momentary stop on lap six as J Kinder spun to a stop in turn one with front end damage.Once green again, Dover began to put heavy pressure on Maeschen, but each time the pilot of the Jordan Brothers Maxim would have the momentum to stay in the lead.  By lap eight, Dover had worked his way up to and passed Maeschen going into turn three.  Maeschen would answer back making a bold move past Dover and a lapped car in turn four to retain the lead.

Disaster would strike on lap eleven as Maeschen worked past a lapped car.  The two made contact and Maeschen spun to a stop just off of turn four.  Maeschen would return from the pits before the restart, but his chance of victory was gone.Dover set a blistering pace on the restart as Cornell and Mike Hess set chase.  In heavy lapped traffic, Cornell had closed on Dover as action was also hot and heavy for third between Hess, Lutz, and Todd. The heavy traffic would take its toll on Lutz as he got together with Davis in turn one  and both flipped.  Doug Lovegrove also spunt to avoid contact with the flipping pair.  Both drivers emerged unscathed as Lovegrove would restart at the tail.  With a lapped car in between himself and Cornell on the restart, Dover took off to his second career Winged Outlaw Warrior win in the 3D Transport Eagle powered by a Shaver motor.  Cornell ran a strong second in the Kiowa Line Builders/Yeager’s Harley Davidson Ostrich-powered Maxim.  Hess had his best career winged finish by running third in the Hefty/Budget Truck Rental Maxim powered by an Automotive Machine motor.  Todd continued his strong season with a fourth in the AmsOil Maxim powered by a Joe Todd motor.  Jon Corbin ran a solid fifth in Dale McCarty’s Engine Connection powered Challenger.  Curtis Evans was sixth followed by Jay Russell and Tyler Blank.  Maeschen rebounded from his earlier misfortune to run ninth with Lovegrove rounding out the top ten.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will next run along with the American Sprint Car Series National tour at the Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri next Saturday June 26th.

Also, the tentative date set for Double X Speedway in California, MO on Sunday July 4th has now been removed from the schedule.

Cornell Wins Second of Year at LA

LaMonte, MO(June 11th)-Running down race leader Austin Alumbaugh on lap sixteen, Jonathan Cornell picked up his second career Winged Outlaw Warrior victory at LA Raceway Friday night.  When the field took the green, Cornell and Alumbaugh ran wheel to wheel battling for the top spot with Alumbaugh leading at the flagstand.  Cornell was never far behind and by lap three, Cody Baker had moved in on the lead duo.  As Baker came hard into turn three, he went over the bank in  between turns three and four bringing out the yellow.  On the restart, fourth place Rusty Potter also got too high in turn three bringing out another yellow before a lap could be completed.

When the green reappeared, Alumbaugh led Cornell and Mark Shirshekan and Tyler Blank ran third and fourth.  Bradlee Ryun was running well using the high groove and had moved into the fifth spot and eighteenth starting Eric Todd had moved to sixth.  As the laps continued to click off, Alumbaugh had extended his lead to a comfortable advantage and the leaders started to encounter heavy lapped traffic.

Cornell started running a lower groove and the lead started to get smaller.  By lap fourteen, Cornell was starting to put heavy pressure on Alumbaugh, but the “Man of Steel” would gain the advantage coming off of the turns.  By lap sixteen, Alumbaugh was having trouble getting by a lapped car and Cornell went by on the bottom.  Alumbaugh made a run at Cornell down the backstretch, but he did not have the momentum to get by Cornell.  Alumbaugh would make a couple of more runs at Cornell over the next couple of laps, but Cornell stretched the advantage over the last couple of laps in his Kiowa Line Builders/Yeager’s Harley Davidson Maxim with Ostrich power.  Cornell also became the first driver to win multiple WOW races at LA Raceway, which has been holding events since 2005.  Alumbaugh ran a strong second in his Rick Wood Masonry/Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling XXX with Wesmar power.  Shirshekan ran a solid third in the Cooper Racing Products J&J powered by a Wesmar.  Blank continued his solid season with a fourth aboard the Blank’s Backhoe/Schlotz Landscaping JEI with Patriot power.  Point leader Todd passed thirteen cars on his way to a fifth place finish in the AmsOil Maxim powered by a Joe Todd motor.  Don Droud Jr. charged to sixth from seventeenth followed by Ryun in seventh.  Potter recovered from his spin and worked his way back to eighth with J Kinder and Jon Corbin rounding out the top ten.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will be back in action next Friday June 18th as they travel to US 36 Raceway in Osborn, MO for a co-sanctioned show with ASCS Midwest.

Jones Wins “Hockett Tribute” at Double X

by Chad Buford
California, MO(May 30th)-On a night where family and friends celebrated the life of Jesse Hockett, it was only fitting that one of his former cars would be in victory lane.  Driving a JEI that his father Dennis purchased from Hockett over the winter, Adam Jones won his first Winged Outlaw Warrior A-Main Sunday night at Double X Speedway.  The A Main got off to a rough start when Dakota Carroll rolled to a stop in turn three after contact with another car.  She suffered front end damage and would not be able to continue.  When the green reappeared, Jones would take the lead as Jonathan Cornell powered his way to the front from his third row starting spot.  With only a lap in the books, the yellow would come out for Jon Corbin, who had stopped on the frontstretch.  Corbin’s night would also be done.
On the restart, Cornell would work his way past Jones and into the lead.  The lead duo was followed closely by Tyler Blank and Rusty Potter.

With five laps in the books, the caution waved again for Curtis Boyer who rolled to a stop in turn four.  Boyer’s night would also be done and his second place standing in WOW points would take a huge hit. At this point, the crowd was getting excited as Randy Martin had moved from eighteenth to tenth in the Jesse Hockett ART with Don Ott power.  On the next attempt of green flag racing, Kyle Bellm would bring out the yellow as he spun off of turn two.   Once again, Cornell took off in the lead followed by Jones and Blank as Austin Alumbaugh began to heavily pressure Potter for fourth.  On lap nine, Alumbaugh made the pass stick and Curtis Evans also made his way near the top five.  Martin had also moved up a spot into ninth as he was aggressively attacking the cushion.  With nine laps in the books, Martin looped his car in turn four bringing out the yellow.

Cornell once again shot into the lead as Blank would muscle his way past Jones and into second as he had found the rubber down low.  Blank was working his way up to Cornell when action was stopped as Bellm spun in turn one and was hit by Taylor Walton.   Both drivers would be done for the evening.
Once again when the green appeared, Cornell shot into the lead.  As he slid up to the cushion, Blank stayed in the rubber and shot by him down low.  Jones continued within striking distance in third and would make his way past Cornell for second on lap fifteen.  With sixteen laps now in the books, the red would come out on lap sixteen for Potter, who had turned on his side in between turns three and four.  After getting set back on all fours, “The Pup” would be able to continue.   Once restarted, Blank and Jones ran down low and Cornell continued his attack of the cushion.  On lap seventeen, Alumbaugh would get by Cornell down low as Eric Todd, who started on the pole and dropped to eighth, made his ascent back to the top five.

It looked as though Blank was on his way to his first career WOW victory when disaster struck the young gasman on lap twenty-two.  As he made his way down the backstretch being closely followed by Jones, Brad Yoder had spun in turn three.  Blank got on the brakes hard, but he still made contact with Yoder as Jones slipped by unscathed.  Blank continued, but smoke bellowed from his car as he pulled to a stop in turn three the next trip around after suffering heavy damage to his headers.  The hometown driver had put on a great show, but his night was over in the Blank’s Backhoe/Schlotz Landscaping JEI.

Taking advantage of Blank’s misfortune, Jones would motor on to the win unchallenged in his Clint Conder-wrenched Wireless Horizon/Harry J’s Steakhouse JEI with Hovis power.  Todd made a huge move forward over the last couple of laps to add to his series point lead in the AmsOil Maxim with Joe Todd power.  Alumbaugh continued his strong weekend finishing third in the Rick Wood Masonry/Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling XXX with BRE power.  Brad Graham moved his way up at the end into a solid fourth place finish in the Prater Body Works Maxim with Hatfield power.  Evan Martin also worked his way into the top five in his Heidbreder Foundation Service/Francis Trucking Maxim with Buzzard power.  Josh Fisher was sixth followed by Randy Martin.  Todd McVay, Cornell, and J Kinder rounded out the top ten.
In a great show of generosity, the Double X fans donated over $2000 to the Hockett family as the drivers went through the grandstands with their helmets at intermission.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will be back in action on Friday June 11th at the LA Raceway in LaMonte, MO.

Alumbaugh Claims Win at Gary Scott Memorial

Moberly, MO(May 29th)-Taking advantage of Jonathan Cornell’s misfortune, Austin Alumbaugh scored his second career Winged Outlaw Warrior win at 24 Raceway Saturday night winning the Gary Scott Memorial. On the original start, Andrew Helm got upside down bringing out the red flag.  He was uninjured.  Jon Corbin led early from his outside front row starting position followed by Rusty Potter and series point leader Eric Todd.  Corbin continued to lead as Jonathan Cornell made his way to the front.  Cornell would pass Corbin on lap fifteen and looked on his way to his second career Winged Outlaw Warrior win, but he got too high and into the wall bringing out the yellow with eighteen laps complete.  He would change a tire and restart at the tail.

Alumbaugh restarted at the front and led the final two laps in the Rick Wood Masonry/Nevels Sign Graphics/Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling XXX with B.R.E. power.  Corbin ran a strong second in his Dale McCarty owned Maxim.  Potter ran third in Roy Cary Livestock and Machinery Singer-powered Maxim with Jay Kinder fourth in the Marquis Okley-powered Maxim.    Chris Walker rounded out the top five in the Santa Fe Glass Gaerte-powered McGarry Chassis.  Tyler Blank was sixth followed by Cornell, Curtis Boyer, Jordan Whitehead, and Dakota Carroll. During the night, the WOW drivers went through the stands and $765 was raised in the memory of Jesse Hockett.  Hockett, a fan favorite throughout Missouri, was tragically lost in a shop accident this past week.

Tonight at Double X Speedway, the feature will be 25 laps and is the “Tribute To Jesse Hockett”.

Taking control on on lap five, Mark Shirshekan captured his first career Winged Outlaw Warrior win at LA Raceway Friday night.  When the green flag waved, Eric Todd led from his pole starting position as he was followed by Shirshekan and Tyler Blank.  With Todd leading, Shirshekan and Blank had  a good race going for the second spot with the pair trading the position on laps three and four.  Shirshekan took over second from Blank on lap four and a lap later, he worked his way past Todd and into the lead.  On lap six, Blank was able to get by Todd as well as he was one of only a few cars who were running the high groove.

The action would be halted on lap eight for Jon Corbin who stopped in turn three.  Corbin would not continue. The yellow was unfortunate for Randy Martin, who had just passed Eric Todd for third.  Before a lap could be completed after the restart, the yellow reappeared for a Haley Arnold spin in turn one. Shirshekan would once again jump out into the lead on the restart as his car was working flawlessly on the bottom of the track.  On lap eleven, Martin was able to get by Todd for third and a lap later, he had worked his way past Blank and into second.  Todd also worked his way past Blank and into third on lap fourteen, but Blank would battle back a lap later and back into third. The duo continued the battle for third, but Todd would take control for good on lap sixteen.  With a handful of laps remaining and Martin starting to gain on Shirshekan, a caution appeared for Cody Baker, who rolled to a stop on the backstretch.  Shirshekan got a great restart and moved away from Martin as Todd and Blank both began to apply heavy pressure for second, but Martin would answer and move away from the pair as the laps wound down.  Martin was not able to close as Shirshekan went on to his first career Winged Outlaw Warrior win in the Cooper Racing Enterprises Wesmar-powered J&J.  Martin ran a solid second in his Diamond Pet Foods J&J powered by a stout Roush-Yates motor.  Todd continued his strong early season by finishing third in the AmsOil Maxim powered by a Joe Todd motor.  Jay Russell finished fourth in the Klein Motors and RV’s Maxim with a Trondson Engine.  Curtis Boyer worked his way past Blank on the last lap to finish fifth in the American Family Insurance/Ramey Dirt Works/Hagedorn Collision and Signs Salina-powered J&J.  Blank held onto sixth in the Blank’s Backhoe Maxim followed by J Kinder in seventh from his fifteenth starting spot.  Mitchell Moore ran eighth as Kyle Bellm and Michael White rounded out the top ten.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will be in action again on Saturday May 8th at Springfield Raceway in a co-sanctioned race with the ASCS Sooner Region.

Martin Takes LOS Spring Nationals

Eldon, MO(April 17th)-
By Chad Buford

Taking advantage of a huge break on lap twenty nine, Randy Martin went on to score a $3000 victory at Lake Ozark Speedway Saturday night in Winged Outlaw Warrior action.
Kyle Hirst in the GP Development A.R.T. with Shark power jumped into the lead at the start followed by Martin.  Hirst would set a blistering pace running the cushion as Martin and Jonathan Cornell kept chase.   With just a handful of laps in the books, Jason Johnson, in the Pope Transportation Ott-powered Maxim, and Brady Bacon were serving notice that they would be a factor as the duo had moved up to fifth and sixth.

The first caution would come out for a stalled Curtis Evans on the backstretch with four laps complete.  At this point, it was Hirst, Martin, Cornell, Cody Baker, and Johnson making up the top five.  The lead trio would remain the same as the green reappeared, but Johnson would move past Baker and into fourth.  A lap later, Bacon would get past Baker and into the top five.

As the top five remained the same, another driver moving forward was Jesse Hockett as he moved past Baker and into sixth on lap seven.  The action was furious as Johnson moved past Cornell at the flagstand as nine laps were now in the books.  A lap later, Bacon would move past Cornell as well.  By lap twelve, the leaders got into heavy lapped traffic as Hirst had moved into a comfortable lead.  Martin continued to run second as Johnson and Bacon inched closer and continued a great battle for third.  By lap seventeen, with Hirst and Martin still leading the way, Johnson had made his way up to Martin.  On lap nineteen, Johnson worked his way past Martin going down the backstretch with a slide job coming off of turn two.  Martin got a run down the backstretch and returned the favor in between turns three and four with a nasty slider of his own.  Johnson got on the brakes hard and had enough momentum to turn underneath Martin and get back by him going down the frontstretch.  This allowed Bacon and Cornell to also move right in on Johnson and Martin.  A couple of laps later, Bacon worked his way by Martin for third.

On lap twenty two, Hirst was slowing in heavy lapped traffic and Johnson made a daring move as he sliced between lapped cars in turns three and four to narrow the advantage significantly.   With all of the leaders mired in traffic and Johnson closing, Hirst would get a break on lap twenty three as Hockett, who was running sixth, ran into Evans in turn four.  Evans spun to a stop and Hockett was able to do a 360 and continue saving his spot in the running order.

With open track in front of him, Hirst again jumped into the lead with Johnson giving chase.  Martin worked his way past Bacon and set his sights on Johnson for second.
Hirst was running the top to perfection as the laps continued to click off.  Johnson was starting to reel him in as twenty eight laps were in the books.  On lap twenty nine, disaster would strike for Hirst as he would get too high and climb the cushion in turn two slapping the wall.  As he tried to correct his car, he got sideways leaving Johnson with nowhere to go.  The two leaders came to a stop just off of turn two ending great runs for both drivers.  Martin and Bacon would now move to the front for the restart.

Martin would run the top on the restart with Bacon running low.  Martin was able to get the momentum needed to lead the final two laps as he would take the 40th WOW win of his career in the Diamond Pet Foods/Hoosier Tires J&J with Roush-Yates power.  Bacon would run a strong second in the Tel Star Communications/Keizer Aluminum Wheels Wesmar-powered XXX.  Hockett would come home third in the Fischer Body Shop A.R.T. with Don Ott power.  Dustin Barks ran a solid fourth in the Ron’s Tire Center/DSL Computer Systems Maxim with a Gary Beck motor.  Eric Todd rounded out the top five in the Team AmsOil Maxim powered by a Joe Todd engine. Mark Shirshekan was sixth in the Cooper Racing J&J followed by Cornell in the Kiowa Line Builders Maxim.  Rounding out the top ten were Mike Trent, Baker, and Josh Fisher.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will next be in action in co-sanctioned races with the ASCS Midwest Tour at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, MO on Friday April 30th.  They will then continue with a co-sanctioned show at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO on Saturday May 1st.  Go to wowsprints.com for all information regarding the Winged Outlaw Warriors.

Cornell Captures Season Opener at LA

LaMonte, MO(April 10th)-
By Chad Buford

Returning to the track where he started his sprint car career, Jonathan Cornell picked up his first career Winged Outlaw Warrior win on Saturday night at LA Raceway.  One of his main sponsors, Kiowa Line Builders, also was the night’s race sponsor making the win even more special.

Tyler Blank led early as he was followed closely by Austin Alumbaugh and Eric Todd.  The lead trio remained this way through the first four laps as Cody Baker, Jonathan Cornell, and Josh Fisher waged a battle just behind them.

By lap five, Todd was able to work his way past Alumbaugh for the runner-up spot, but Alumbaugh would not give up the spot without a fight.  Cornell was also working his way into the fray with Baker and Fisher continuing to keep the lead group in their sights.

Todd was steadily gaining  as Blank ran high and Todd low.  On lap eight, Todd was able to get by Blank with a low move past a lapped car while Blank was trapped.  Todd continued to lead, but Blank and Alumbaugh were never too far behind as the trio sliced and diced through traffic.

By lap twelve, Cornell had also worked his way into the battle as he started pressuring Alumbaugh for third.  A couple of laps later, Fisher also entered the fray.  Cornell was able to work by Alumbaugh as a lap later  Fisher also would make a pass of Alumbaugh for third.  Before the lap could be completed, a yellow was thrown for David Brown, who spun off the track between turns three and four.  This would move Fisher back to fourth behind Alumbaugh.  The yellow would set up a four lap dash to the checkered.

On the restart, Todd’s motor would stumble allowing Cornell to get up beside him in turns one and two.  Cornell shot into the lead going down the backstretch and would go on to his first career WOW win in the Kiowa Line Builders/Yeager’s Harley Davidson Maxim with Ostrich power as he was not challenged over the final four laps.  Fisher was able to work his way by Todd on the final lap in the Ozark Barge and Dock Service/Champion Brands/Impact Sign and Lighting Co. Maxim with Singer power.  Todd would hang onto a solid third in the Amsoil Maxim with a Todd Racing Engine built by his father Joe.  Alumbaugh was fourth in the Rick Wood Masonry/Alumbaugh Heating and Cooling/Nevels Sign Graphics XXX with a Bulldog Racing Engine.  Blank would round out the top five in the Blank’s Backhoe/Schlotz Landscaping/Timbrook Motorsports JEI with Patriot power.  Running a solid sixth was Curtis Boyer in a J&J as Jon Corbin finished seventh.  Randy Martin ran eighth in his first race with Roush/Yates power while Baker and Mike Hess rounded out the top ten.  Heat races for the 22 car field were won by Rusty Potter, Tyler Blank, and Eric Todd.

The Winged Outlaw Warriors will next race at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO next Saturday April 17th in the first annual LOS Spring Nationals which will pay the winner $3000.
